9. Well designed

When we design and plan public spaces, we should think about:

A thought bubble with a person in it and a question mark next to it.

  • who will use them

A thought bubble with 2 cogs in it and a question mark next to it.

  • how people will interact with them.

A thought bubble with a map of Australia inside it.

We should also think about Country when we plan and design public spaces.

Public spaces should have things that:

A person holding a document with a list on it.

  • can be used in different ways
  • can support lots of different needs.

A person with a mobility aid using an accessible ramp to access a toilet in a public space.

For example, an accessible toilet in a park.

Public spaces should also work with other places people go:

A group of people in a classroom using microscopes with a teacher supporting them.

  • to learn

A person having a conversation with a health care worker.

  • for health care

A person performing a cultural dance on a stage in a theater.

  • to connect with diverse cultures.
